Busy, busy, busy…

Last night I cranked for about five hours straight getting Schlock Mercenary Basic Training set up.

This morning I’m preparing to do a 40-minute presentation to a classroom of twenty-seven 10-year-olds. I’m on in (checks clock) 35 minutes.

And then this afternoon, Shaggy (from Dragon’s Keep) and I are going to see Bloodrayne. You’ll get a review of this I-hope-it’s-a-stinker on the front page of the site. It’ll be a real shame if the movie has any depth, because as busy as I’ve been, I’m ill-prepared for something intellectual.

No fresh Homestar for a MONTH!

I’m wondering why there’s been no fresh Homestar Runner for a month now. The “main” page still says it was last updated on December fifth.

In other news, for certain non-positive and non-negative integer values of “X,” it is now “20X6” (pronounced “twenty-ecksdee-six.”) Where’s my blue hair? (I’ve GOT really cool boots.)

(Note: I’m using the first definition here for the word “integer.” You math nuts can take a chill pill in advance, safe in the knowledge that I know YOUR definition exists, but I choose not to use it.)

Why does the press keep calling them “insurgents?”

Why does the press keep calling the terrorists who are terrorizing Iraq “insurgents?” They’re getting their money through Al Quaeda and other foreign sources, they’re mostly foreign fighters to begin with, and they’re killing far, far more innocent civilians than government, coalition, or U.S. forces.

How is that “insurgency?” I could buy “guerrilla invasion” or even “proxy rebellion,” except that the tactics being employed are TERRORIST tactics. They’re trying to pressure a government and a military coalition politically by murdering the civilians that government has sworn (and has now been ELECTED) to protect.

It’s really quite simple. The West is doing battle with Al Quaeda terrorists on the ground in Iraq. Why isn’t it getting reported that way?

(UPDATE: best answer I’ve heard so far, paraphrased — “because the US military called them insurgents for the first couple of years.” As naming conventions go, that’s hard to argue with.)

179.5… I haven’t read that on the scale since I started cartooning

That’s right, I think I’m at my lowest weight in something like five years. Honestly, I can’t remember the last time I tipped the scale at less than 180 lbs, but I KNOW it’s been more than three years. Naturally, I’m feeling quite pleased with this morning’s scale reading. My next goal is 175, which long ago was a weight I had trouble imagining myself ABOVE.
