My 5-year-old son “Patch” is playing with my Monsterpocalypse figurine collection, and has the small models out. The Terrasaurs, Planet-Eaters, and Guardians are all doing battle.
I asked how come none of the big monsters were helping in the fight.
“Because it’s just the minions.”
“Minions,” he says. Who taught him that word?
More importantly, does he know that he is in training to become one of my minions?
Maybe he has secret plans, and someday YOU will be HIS minion…
That’s always how it is. The evil overlord’s kids manage a coup and dad becomes the new lackey. Or the prize prisoner in the recently refurbished cell block.
Which is why you should never build a cell block you can’t escape from (cf. Lord Vetinari)
So that’s why all the cell blocks have convenient escape methods that the heroes use to escape.

Sorry to barge in, here, I don’t normally read your journal, and gave up on the comic some years back, sad to say, stopped reading a bunch of them when I was conscripted.
But I really want to see the Randym Thoughts archive again! I loved it back then, really waited for updates, and haven’t really encountered anything quite like it since it ended. Comics like that today… Well, there’s SMBC, but that’s… not the same.
